If you apply for finance, your details will be submitted through a secure online application area. This means that all of your details are encrypted to help prevent them being viewed by anyone else using the Internet.

What information we collect

Penrican collects the details you provide when you complete an application or contact us with an enquiry, and from your dealings with us if you apply for or take up our products and services.

How we use and disclose your personal information

We will use your personal information to:

• process your application or enquiry and to administer the products and services you apply for with or through us

• contact you (by post, email or telephone) to ask you about our products and the service you receive and how we might improve this

• register your interest in receiving information about our products and services and those of other relevant organisations

• to any other finance providers we may refer your application to

• to other lenders/brokers/organisations who may be able to lend to you or provide other services if we decline your application

• to any agents, contractors or advisers we engage to help us run our business, on the understanding they will keep it confidential

• to law enforcement agencies who request it for criminal investigation purposes, but only when we are reasonably satisfied as to the circumstances of the request

We may record and monitor telephone calls for security and training purposes.

When you apply for finance

To help us decide whether to offer you finance, we will search your record at credit reference agencies who will supply us with information, which may include information from the Electoral Register. The agencies will record details of our search (whether or not this application proceeds) and this will be seen by other organisations making searches. We may use credit-scoring methods to assess this application and verify your identity. Credit searches and other information which is provided to us and/or the credit reference agencies, about you and those with whom you are linked financially, may be used by us and other companies if credit decisions are made about you, or other members of your household. This information may be used for debt tracing and the prevention of money laundering as well as the management of your account.

Information held about you by the credit reference agencies may already be linked to records relating to one or more of your partners. For the purposes of this application you may be treated as financially linked and your application will be assessed jointly with any "associated" records.

If you are a joint buyer or if you told us of some other financial association with another person, you confirm that you are entitled to:

• disclose information about your joint buyer and anyone referred to by you;

• authorise us to search, link or record information at credit reference agencies about you and any one referred to by you.

An "association" between joint buyers, and between you and anyone you tell us is your financial partner, will be created at credit reference agencies. This will link your financial records, each of which may be taken into account in all future applications by either or both of you. This will continue until one of you successfully files a disassociation at the credit reference agencies.

To protect ourselves and our customers from theft and fraud we may pass information to financial and other organisations involved in fraud prevention. It is important that you give us accurate information. We may check your details with Fraud Prevention Agencies and if you give us false or inaccurate information and we suspect fraud, we will record this. We, and other organisations (including HP Information Plc) may use and search these records to:

• help make decisions about credit and related credit services, for you and members of your household;

• help make decisions on motor, household, credit, life and other insurance proposals and insurance claims, for you and members of your household;

• trace debtors, recover debt, prevent fraud, and to manage your accounts or insurance policies;

• check your identity to prevent money laundering, unless you furnish us with other satisfactory proof of identity; and

• carry out detailed statistical and business analysis about credit, insurance and fraud.

Please telephone us on 08707 662 663 if you want to have details of the fraud prevention agencies from whom we obtain and to whom we pass information about you. You have a legal right to this information.

We may obtain information from your employers to verify the employment details provided in your application.

If you take up finance with us:

• We will add to your record with the credit reference agencies details of your agreement with us, the payments you made under it and any default or failure to keep to its terms. This information will be seen by other organisations making searches.

• We may occasionally search our records, and those of credit reference and fraud prevention agencies, so we can manage your account and take further decisions about giving, continuing or extending credit, but these searches will not be seen or used by other organisations to assess your ability to obtain credit.

If we are unable to offer you finance, we may pass your details to one or more alternative finance providers in our panel who may be willing to provide you with finance. The finance provider, or if we refer to you to more than one, each finance provider, may also make a search with credit reference agencies. The same explanation as given above also applies in relation to each finance provider who makes a search, and in particular, each finance provider's search will be recorded by the credit reference agency and seen by other organisations making searches. If you borrow from one of the finance providers you are referred to, they will also add to your record with the credit reference agencies, details of your agreement, the payments made under it, and any default or failure to keep to its terms. This information will be seen by other finance providers making searches.

Keeping you informed

We may use your contact and other details you provide in your application or from our records of our dealings with you, to identify our products and services, and those of other finance providers who we may refer your application to, which may interest you. We may also share this information with these organisations so that we or they may contact you by letter, telephone, email, fax and SMS with promotional information about finance. By submitting your application, you agree that we may use your information in this way, unless you have indicated where provided when you submit the application, that you do not agree to this, or you subsequently write requesting this to stop. Please note that even if you have asked us not to send you marketing information by certain communication methods such as telephone or email, we may still need to contact you in these ways to administer our service with you.

Cookies

We do not currently use 'cookies' or similar technologies on our website, but please check our privacy policy from time to time if you return to this website in case our policy on cookies changes.

Overseas data transfers

If we need to transfer your information to countries outside the European Union, or if we administer our services through countries whose data protection laws are not as extensive as in the European Union, we will keep control of the information or require anyone we pass it to to treat it to European Union standards.

Transfer or sale of business

If our business is sold or integrated with another business, your personal information may be disclosed to our advisors and any prospective purchaser's advisers on the understanding that they will keep it confidential.
