We cannot guarantee the security of any personal information you provide online, however we endeavour to take all reasonable steps to keep it secure. If you apply for finance, your details will be submitted through a secure online application area. This means that all of your details are encrypted to help prevent them being viewed by anyone else using the Internet.

What information we collect

Penrican collects the details you provide when you complete an application or contact us with an enquiry, and from your dealings with us if you apply for or take up our products and services.

How we use and disclose your personal information

Use of your Information
Penrican is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller under registration number Z707934X.
We may use the personal information that you provide to us to:

• process your application or enquiry and to administer the products and services you apply for with or through us;
• contact you (by post, e-mail or telephone) to ask you about our products and the service you receive and how we might improve this;
• make credit-related or insurance-related decisions about you;
• verify your identity, your current address and assess your application (we may use credit-scoring methods for this);
• carry out detailed statistical and business analysis about credit, insurance and fraud;
• update or enhance our customer records;
• help us to improve our products and services; and
• identify and send you information about our products and services, and those of other organisations which may be of interest to you.

We may also share your information with other organisations so that we or they may contact you by letter, telephone, email, text message or fax, to inform you about their products and services. Your telephone calls may be recorded and monitored to prevent or detect crime and for service quality purposes.

Disclosure of Your Personal Information
We may disclose your personal information to:

• any other finance providers we may refer your application to;
• other lenders/brokers/organisations who may be able to lend to you or provide other services if we decline your application;
• any agents, contractors or advisers we engage to help us run our business, on the understanding they will keep it confidential;
• the providers of any related insurances you apply for;
• to law enforcement agencies who request it for criminal investigation purposes, but only when we are reasonably satisfied as to the circumstances of the request; and
• credit reference agencies (CRAs),

for the purposes of:

• performing credit searches on you;
• making credit decisions about you and/or members of your household;
• verifying your identity and preventing money laundering; and
• debt tracing and debt recovery.

When you apply for finance

CRAs and FPAs

When you apply for finance, we will conduct searches at CRAs. The CRAs will supply us with information on you, which may include information from the electoral register. They will record details of our search (whether or not your application proceeds) and this record may be seen by other organisations making searches.

We will also provide the CRAs with information about you, including the details of any agreement that you enter into with us, the payments you have made under it and any default or failure to keep to its terms. This information may be seen by other organisations that conduct similar searches with these CRAs. The CRAs also have reciprocal arrangements with HPI Limited and Call Credit Limited under which they share your vehicle and payment information. This information may be made available to Call Credit Limited and HPI Limited's subscribers.

We may occasionally search our records and those of CRAs and FPAs so that we can manage your account and take further decisions about giving, continuing or extending credit, but these searches will not be seen or used by other organisations to assess your ability to obtain credit. It is important that you provide us with accurate information. If you give us false or inaccurate information and we suspect fraud, your application will be rejected.

Financial Associations
Information held about you by CRAs may already be linked to records relating to another person who is associated to you (for example, a spouse, parent or a financial partner). For the purposes of any agreement that you enter into with us, you may be treated as financially linked and may be assessed jointly with any "associated" records. If you are a joint buyer or if you told us of some other financial association with another person, you confirm that you are entitled to:

• disclose information to us about your joint buyer (and anyone else referred to by you in communications with us);
• authorise us to search, link or record information at CRAs about you and anyone else referred to by you in communications with us.

An "association" between joint buyers, and between you and anyone you tell us is your financial partner, will be created at CRAs. This will link your financial records, each of which may be taken into account in all future applications by either or both of you. This will continue until one of you successfully files a disassociation notice at the relevant CRAs.

Keeping you informed

We may use your contact and other details you provide in your application or from our records of our dealings with you, to identify our products and services, and those of other finance providers who we may refer your application to, which may interest you. We may also share this information with these organisations so that we or they may contact you by letter, telephone, email, fax and SMS with promotional information about finance. By submitting your application, you agree that we may use your information in this way, unless you have indicated where provided when you submit the application, that you do not agree to this, or you subsequently write requesting this to stop. Please note that even if you have asked us not to send you marketing information by certain communication methods such as telephone or email, we may still need to contact you in these ways to administer our service with you.

Cookies

We do not currently use 'cookies' or similar technologies on our website, but please check our privacy policy from time to time if you return to this website in case our policy on cookies changes.

Overseas data transfers

If we transfer your information to other countries outside of the European Economic Area, we will ensure that it is adequately protected in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Transfer or sale of business

If our business is sold or integrated with another business, your personal information may be disclosed to our advisors and any prospective purchaser's advisers on the understanding that they will keep it confidential. It will also be passed to any new owners of the business and used by them and other companies in their Group in the same way as set out in this Privacy Policy.

Accessing your personal information

Subject Access Requests
You have a right to receive a copy of the personal data that we hold about you, on payment of a fee. If you wish to receive a copy of such information, please apply to us in writing, enclosing a cheque for £10 made payable to Penrican Credit Limited, at Customer Services, Penrican Credit Limited, First Floor, 257A New Road Side, Horsforth, Leeds, LS18 4DR.
